Detox Drinks to Lose Weight

Nowadays, we consume so much processed and junk food, that our bodies do not get enough nutrients, and instead get loaded with toxins. Toxins can come from various sources such as the water we drink, the chemicals used to prepare food, and in today’s world, even from the air we breathe! Therefore, it is necessary for us to detoxify our bodies on a regular basis. Detoxification not only removes the toxins from the body, but also helps one lose weight in a natural and organic way. Consuming these drinks is one of the most popular techniques that even celebrities are resorting to, for losing weight.

Detox Drinks that Help Lose Weight

Detox drinks are considered one of the quickest and easiest ways to lose weight. Most detox drinks for weight loss available in the market are designed for intensive cleansing of the body. A good detox drink should contain vitamins, minerals, and natural herbs. Here is a list of some of the most effective detox drinks.

Organic Teas

Tea by itself is considered as a natural detox drink. Though it contains trace amounts of caffeine (which some experts believe is harmful for the body), it creates a balance between the production and expulsion of toxins present in our bodies. Dandelion tea, ginger tea, peppermint tea, green tea, and most herbal teas are effective in aiding weight loss. Dandelion tea protects the liver and cleanses the bloodstream. On the other hand, ginger tea detoxifies the body through perspiration, while peppermint tea helps with indigestion and nausea. Green tea helps in reducing cholesterol present in the body, and helps enhance the body’s immune system.

Lemon Detox Diet

The lemon detox diet is also called the ‘master cleanse diet’, and is very popular due to its association with celebrities. One of the most famous detox drinks for weight loss is the lemon cayenne pepper drink, which was used by Beyonce Knowles for achieving her stunning figure for the movie Dreamgirls. This natural detoxification drink is very beneficial for weight loss and for improving complexion. It is a fast way of losing weight, however, it is not recommended for everyone. It is basically helpful in cleansing the digestive tract, which ultimately results in weight loss. The main ingredient in this diet is (quite obviously) lemon! And the best part is, the ingredients used for this drink are readily available in your kitchen, and is thus, the perfect homemade detox drink to lose weight. In a glass of water, combine a tablespoon of lemon, a teaspoon of organic maple syrup and a dash of cayenne pepper. Sip on this drink all day for best results.

Cranberry Juice

Cranberry juice detox diet is very effective in losing weight, as it enhances the body’s metabolism, which results in fats being converted into fuel, needed by the body for various activities. It is recommended that this detox be done in summer or spring, for best results. Also, it is essential to consume 32 to 64 ounces of 100% natural and organic cranberry juice a day, along with a good dose of vegetables and fruits. Not only does this detox drink help lose weight, it also helps clear nicotine and alcohol from the system in about four days.

Vegetable Juice

The liver is a vital organ of the body that is responsible for detoxification. Cabbage is considered beneficial for liver detox. Cabbage facilitates digestion, which is very important for weight loss. The best way to use cabbage is in the form of soup. Some people even make and consume cabbage juice with other vegetables, to enhance its flavor. Besides this, carrots and pears are also very effective, and can be used along with cabbage in soups or juices. You may consume a cabbage-based drink along with fresh fruits and other vegetables.

Some of the other concoctions that will help you in the detoxification process are;

Additional Helpful Tips

When following a diet that involves only detox beverages, keep the following tips in mind:

  • A detox drink diet should be followed only for a short time period, say 3 – 4 days, at regular intervals. A lot of people will suggest following it for a stretch of ten days or longer, but your body has to be able to adjust to it. Do not continue the diet if you feel extremely weak or develop body aches, headaches, dizziness, nausea, or vomiting.
  • Keep away from heavily-cooked and processed food during your diet, and avoid meat, sweets, and fried food altogether.
  • When consuming fruits, avoid the consumption of grapes, bananas, mangoes, and custard apple, to avoid intake of fats.
  • If you must eat and cannot survive only on drinks (as for example, the master cleanse diet suggests), have a diet rich in whole grains, that will give you the necessary energy, as well as fiber to lose weight. You may also consume boiled beans and legumes in limited quantities.
  • It is important to remember that you have to drink lots of water while following a detox diet.

Detox diets that involve only the consumption of drinks, should be used only until you achieve your target weight loss. Additionally, after achieving your target weight, it is important to maintain yourself at this weight. Gorging on high-calorie food items will only result in all the weight coming back, and all your hard work going down the drain. So, once you’ve detoxified your body, ensure that it acts as a lesson for you to only eat right and healthy food!
